HCAP Toolbox
Overview & Guide
The HCAP Toolbox is a shared resource developed by the HCAP Network to support study teams collecting primary data using the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol. It includes a 1) written protocol and 2) item repository summarizing cognitive tests used across completed HCAP studies worldwide. These materials are designed to help teams select, adapt, and administer assessments based on field experiences from existing studies, promoting high-quality, harmonized data collection across diverse global settings.

Written Protocol
The written protocol includes information about the basic principles of an HCAP study and key principles of cross-cultural adaptation of the cognitive test items. An overview of all the available items that have been included in ongoing HCAP studies and the rationale for the five cognitive domains measure in HCAP is provided. Recommendations for data analysis and further reading are included at the end of the document.
Item Repository
The item repository is a centralized database with extensive information about cultural and other adaptations to items, establishes a consistent naming convention for measures, and ultimately will improve consistency across studies and provide a way to identify potential deviations from the standard protocol. Studies in the HCAP Network
The item repository also includes a directory for all HCAP Network studies. Please note that this database is still being updated.
